He might have steered clear of last week’s Democratic National Convention, claiming that politicians were the proper stars of that show, but George Clooney didn’t miss his chance to charm some $900K out of American supporters of Barack Obama at a fundraiser in Switzerland on Tuesday.

ABC News:

Just Tuesday, Obama raised nearly $5 million at a celebrity-packed fundraiser in Los Angeles. The same day, George Clooney pulled in up to an additional $900,000 for the Democratic candidate at a fundraiser of American citizens in Switzerland.

“The two things you need to win are money and people’s attention, and celebrities can get you a little of both,” said Steve Ross, chairman of the history department at the University of Southern California.

While celebrities have donated plenty of money to campaigns, their real value comes in the ability to draw crowds.

I dont care that the gOP is holding fundraisers. I an a wavering Reg. Dem who is sick to death of all this $$$ being wasted on campaigns! There are alot of horrible things happening around the globe, and plenty right here. Anybody notice the re-caluculation of the US “misery index”??Both candidates seem to have enough $$ to fund 100 campaigns and I just think that it is time to give it a rest. Give it to someone who needs it--maybe NO?--that should get you more votes than another slick, campaign commercial.People seem to think that, if yu say, well, “so and so is doing it” , that the reply wil be “oh, ok then”.Didnt you mama ever tell you about not following lemmings? The GOP is FULL of greedy-ass m-fers.Everybody knows that. When the Dem Party starts to look the same, yet preaches to be the “party of the people"--you get cognitive dissonence. Not comfortable, but, once you’ve thought it out, you begin to relize that they are both full of it! Freedom tastes of reality!

Misshap, you should read more than the internet, read the Thur. edition of the Chicago Sun Times, for the whole story, celebs from the UK and the United states flew in for the party, and if you gave very large amounts of money you could sit at the special table with the other few hundred big donors.

Why doesnt Clooney ask for money for New Orleans? And why the HELL, is FEMA (supposedly govt funded) and Red Cross holding telethons for hurrican help?? Where is the regular funding?? Another attempt by Bush neo-cons to “prove govt doesnt work” , but “charity” does. All of you , so against “taxes"--why not let taxpayers specify where their taxes dollars should go? You pay for Baghdad--I’l pay for Hurricane relief?

Mr. SOBs and Mr. RightWing weren’t using their best reading skills when they responded to this article. The fundraiser referred to was clearly held for Americans LIVING abroad:  entrepreneurs, academics, students, (dare I suggest) diplomats.
One would be hopelessly naive to think that the Republican party wasn’t holding its own events in places like Dubai and Riyadh.

Now I know you are nothing but the usual stupid ignorant fool that has no sense but to open your mouth and make a fool out of yourself.I am sorry that you can not help promote a real change that will make life better for people. You are a sorry excuse for a human to promote a fool that has no interest in helping anybody but them selves by being a mouth peace. You want to be Obama’s bro, you don’t fool me.

Just think of all the green house gases released by all these liberal fat cats going to Europe to have a party.  Oh, that right, they probably bought offsets.
