Toby Keith Comes Out as a Democrat

Posted on Aug 19, 2008
Toby Keith

Shock’n Y’All: Toby Keith says he’s a Democrat and likes what Barack Obama has to say.

Is this the same Toby Keith who unleashed the cheese-slathered anthem, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” (complete with fluffy golden retriever puppies and rippling flags in the video version), on the general public in 2002? Mr. “We’ll-Put-A-Boot-Up-Your-Ass”? It’s hard to figure whether the country star’s quasi-endorsement of Barack Obama is a boon or a bust for either candidate, but Keith sure seems fired up about the presumptive Democratic candidate.

AP via Yahoo News:

Asked while promoting his new movie “Beer For My Horses” about the role of patriotism in the current presidential election, Keith replied: “There’s a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.

“So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things.”

Your comment: “I’ve known many many very Liberal blue collar workers, and most of the blue collar unions suport Democratic candidates.”

I agree.  Not only that, it is a FACT that unions representing “blue collar” workers support democratic or liberal leaning candidates.  I don’t like the term “blue collar”, since it tends to denote or IMPLY “uneducated”...yet…how does the supposed “professional class” fix their toliet problems….or build a Frank Lloyd Wright home…?

Outside of that, I have to disagree with you when you say “most left wingers can’t think…”.  I’m sure there are those for which your assertion would “fit like a glove so to speak”.  On the other hand, there are those of which this could be said of the “right” also.  So…what we really need to do is to band together…ALL OF US, “THINKERS” and regain control of our country from the criminals who so unabashedly have seized control.

Evidently frank, like McCain and other right wing war enthusiasts, is unaware of what constitutes a Pyrrhic victory, because that’s the only kind that the U.S. will obtain in the middle east. BushCo’s oil war has already cost the lives of >4000 terrific American kids, shattered the lives of 10x that many who’ve been maimed forever, killed >600,000 Iraqis (all of them Al Queda, no doubt!), created >5 million Iraqi refugees, destroyed our credibility worldwide, smeared our country’s good name with the fecal mire of officially sanctioned kidnapping, torture, and murder, added what will eventually amount to $3 trillion to the national debt, depleted the resources of our National Guard, allowed our own infrastructure to decay, while pouring resources into Iraq, etc., etc., ... and they speak of “victory”?
When Osama bin Laden engineered the 9-11 attacks, he outlined three specific objectives: to induce the U.S. to alienate the moslem world by invading and occupying an Arab country, to cripple our military, to deplete our treasury. Thanks to the Resident Moron in the White House, bin Laden achieved all three of his goals and got clean away with it. Now McCain wants to extend Bush’s mistakes by attacking Iran and possibly Russia. The man’s a bad-tempered, possibly senile old warmonger, who’s been deluded by his own self-aggrandizing propaganda into believing he can extend the neoconservative dogma of American exceptionalism into the 21st century. A McCain presidency might make even W’s eight catastrophic years seem benign.

What is a patriot?

A member of a team that plays in Foxborough Massachusetts.

Most rednecks are blue collar workers?

I’ve known many many very Liberal blue collar workers, and most of the blue collar unions suport Democratic candidates.

Right wingers can’t spell?

maybe so, but most left wingers can’t think…

“Barack Hussien Obama sadens me very very deeply”

Two spelling mistakes in one sentence. Interesting how right-wingers can never can spell. They like to use Obama’s middle name which is supposed to remind voters that he is really a closet Muslim.
Maybe she and her fellow intellectual Toby Keith can get together for a song-writing session.

Your comment: “Most ‘Rednecks’ are blue collar.”

Take a step back, check out the “bigger picture”... and while your at it determine what the ACTUAL definition of “redneck” is.  Don’t be so quick to judge….I am “oldish” (LOL) and my children’s definition of “redneck” is something very different from mine.  So all of us had to “set the matter” straight so to speak.  Great fun, really…. seeing the changing interpretation of the word.  As it is perserve… and.. oh, BTW, I’m with Natalie Maines on this one, in other words….FUTK.

‘Old’ Toby’s feelin’ the winds of change….. maybe a new Dem sheriff
is comin’ to town and Toby wants to ‘get right’....

It’s sometimes hard to tell who is saying what for political effect, you can only make a judgment by comparing what’s been said and done in the past by the same people..

Dixie Chicks took a big hit for what was said…. Kanye West made remarks about Bush after Hurricane Katrina…...Dennis Kucinich has been swingin’ alone against ‘the system’ for years now…  don’t know if ‘that’ makes them patriots but at least they spoke up when they rest of the opinion was very much against them.

McCain, from what I’ve read, comes from a well off military family, not a scholar, as he graduated 5th from last in his class at the navel academy, and was shot down after about 20 hours of flight mission time, never involved in any strategic planning of any sort….. he suffered torture after being shot down and captured,
came home, rehab…. messed around and divorced his first wife, got into politics, remarried a wealthy girl,  got himself in and out of political trouble over the years…. and now is running for president for a 2nd time claiming that he is the original ‘American savior’.
McCain seems to become a ‘maverick’ only after he’s gotten himself into ‘hot water’ like the Keating 5 thing , afterwards, McCain suddenly becomes a ‘reformer’...

There are many Vets who must have a more compelling story than McCain and, given a chance, with the right financial resources and backing, could do well in the political world…..

maybe a patriot is simply one who stands and works for the best ideals of America but does not blindly and unquestioningly salute the flag…...

What is a patriot?

Well I knew a parrot once who’s name was Patriot. Not because of any national or party leaning, but because his owners heavy accent made it impossible for her to say parrot properly.

The bird being smarter than the average “Polly want a cracker-er,” named himself, and defined better than anything anyone could think of, just exactly what a patriot is. Able to quickly learn, and repeat words and sentences on demand, without having to understand what was being learned or repeated.

Not being a country-western fan, I cant intelligently comment on the “music,” but it’s interesting to note, even some rednecks are dems. But then maybe all rednecks aren’t country-western fans. And certainly not all country-western fans are red-necks. And most certainly not all country-western fans are redneck, conservatives.

Point being, this small article says little and leaves out lots, but that wont keep any of us from expounding large on it.

What I gather from it is, Toby Keith is a dem, apparently always has been, and liked Bill Clinton. Maybe someone somewhere thinks it’s newsworthy ‘cause he isn’t calling for electing Hillary.

Most ‘Rednecks’ are blue collar. And yet they support a Party which is bought & paid for by the Corps which continue to ship their jobs over seas, reduce their bennies and charge them outrageous interest rates (worse than mafia loan sharks)
FYI guys the Dem party has always been the Labor Party- first & foremost.since Labor encompasses the masses we also strive for Equal Rights for all who labor, which feeds & cares for the children, the disabled and the elderly. We honor and respect all those Daddy’s & momma who strive evryday just to make ends meet.
We support those willing to defend our country- by only asking them only When it is absolutely necessary! Not because some Oil’royal’ wants to increase his Oil Fields with the Help of their Minions wrapped in OUR Flag!
We agree on the basic tennents which guide humankind to live up to its Potential & responsiblity as ‘Stewards’, regardless of what symbols or Idols they worship or honor.
We respect our founding fathers Wisedom regarding the aspiration for a Free Nation- not beholden to any Power, but that of the People
ALittle Heads Up….WE will never be ‘energy Independent’ as long as the Oil corps and their foreign sponsors are poachers on our Land and in control of our foreign policies.Off Shore Drilling is only giving the go ahead for them to harvest products off Our Property- with no agreement of repayment or access to what they get.Oil Poaching!

gotta laugh though Toby is going to get the Wrath from the fools who keep voting for that 3rd Rail Party- The Corporationist who have immersed themselves in ‘Red’ as campoflague.the Dixie Chics have got to be laughing their asses off now that W’s been proven an Oil Puppet,A Deceiver wrapped up in an American Flag ,waving a Bible.Has Toby apologized to them yet?
Thank goodness I end my listening to such artist when the music is over.Just because I listen to his songs, does not mean I have to listen to his opinions. So I never burned his CD’s or turned him off the radio (which I do to Michael jackson).Remember Toby your wealth came from writing & singing songs, not Op Eds!Don’t cut your nose off to spit your face.Don’t live up to the stereotype of being a dumbass Redneck who can’t even figure out what side the bread is buttered on.Just like the idiots who keep voting for the Corporationist in Red.
Democrats proved they will run such scum out..Look at LIEberman. First in a series of other Corp’ist to be run out of our party because they stepped on that 3rd rail (Supporting corp interests over American Interests)

Wow…guess I should’ve known the “Toby news” would be bringing the right-wing wackos out of the closet, but really, comments like….

“I have destroyed his CDs…”
“Obama is not a patriot…”
“...his support of Barack Hussien [sic] Obama sadens [sic] me very very deeply”

....don’t surprise me anymore. Let’s face it, anyone who’d support a candidate (McSame) whose party membership and voting record supports 95% of those of our current president, has got some screws missing. Let’s have more of the same!

1. A huge deficit ($9.5 TRILLION) - by far the largest in our nation’s history.
2. A failed war that’s killed 4,150 troops (and likely hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens).
3. A failed war that’s likely to cost $1 TRILLION.
4. An energy crisis.
5. A housing crisis.
6. A healthcare crisis. (We spend more per capita for health care than any major industrialized nation yet rank far down the list in overall health care).
7. A growing polarity between the rich and the poor (tax credits for the rich in time of war????)
8. A country that’s no longer respected by its allies.
9. A failing infrastructure with roads crumbling, bridges falling, rail threatened.
10. A failing auto industry.
11. A suffering stock market.
12. Etc. Etc. Etc.

AND WE WANT MORE OF THIS? Insane, the stupidity out there.

Toby, like any good republican, makes music for money.  The market for corntree music is dummed down, salt of the earth rednecks for the most part.  Don’t kick my dog, burn my flag, (Confederate or American) spit on my truck or get in my way when I’m headed down to the Honkey Tonk.  This mindset is just what republicans rely on year in and year out to remain in power.  Next we’ll see B.O. buying boots and hat at Cavender’s Boot City.

Progressive from Arkansas.
It’s lonely down here.

But I’m sure in the end he’ll vote for McCain. He’s probably just saying this to get some attention.

I will no longer purchase Toby Keith’s music. I have destroyed his CD’s and deleted his music from my Hard Drive. Anyone that thinks that just because Obama made one trip to Afghanistan, understands World Politics and is good for my country does not deserve my money. Obama will destroy America. And no I am not crazy about McCain either. As far as I am concerned we do not have anyone running that I care to vote for. I have watched all our politicians work more for their re-elections than for the good of the country. They, the majority of them, should be run out of town on a rail.

His comments, as excerpted here, do not amount to endorsing Obama.

It’s more like Keith said, “Obama’s coming along nicely towards my way of thinking.”

Presumably, he didn’t like Obama so much before Obama “went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Keith is now simply noting the obvious: that Obama, at least in terms of the “nice things” he’s been saying recently, has been moving to the right.

Keith notes this with satisfaction, without saying whether Obama’s rightward “education” has gone far to assure him of getting Mr. Keith’s vote. That’s hardly an endorsement.

Toby Keith? Democrat? Well go figure. That ought to be about enough icing on the insanity cake for one day. We’ve truly entered into a parallel quasi bizarro universe. Up is indeed down and left is right and the right is insane and always has been and of course, who’s your daddy! Next thing you know, John InSane will be kissing “colored babies” and making campaign stops in Compton. Thugs in a hood! No doubt!

Is this True?  The man who wrote, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” are you sure that this is not just a satire story?
For this man, who espouses, revenge and retribution, both things which are anathema to the core ideal values of the Democratic Party, to say that he is a Democrat is kind of weird.
Not to say that he cannot be, but I am sure that someone, somewhere must have a really strange sense of humor.
Although what I know of Toby Keith, is from the music and promotional literature, that is put out by his handlers, it seems that someone is playing an awful joke on the rest of the world.
Should he stand up and say, I am a Democrat and I believe the plank of the Democratic Party is the one for me, then I might believe him.
