Rush Limbaugh
politicsandfunk.com

According to his Web site, he’s “America’s Truth Detector; the Doctor of Democracy; the Most Dangerous Man in America; the All-Knowing, All-Sensing, All-Everything Maha Rushie; defender of motherhood, protector of fatherhood and an all-around good guy.” Whatever he may be, Rush Limbaugh is also going to be even richer than ever with his new contract to keep talking for the next eight years.

The New York Times:

Talk was never cheap for Rush Limbaugh, but now it is getting a lot more expensive.

The A.M. radio host will be paid about $400 million to continue serving up his daily dose of conservative patter through 2016. His $50 million a year paycheck represents a raise of about $14.4 million a year over his current contract, which was paying him $285 million over eight years and was set to expire in 2009.

The deal—struck a month short of the 20th anniversary of “The Rush Limbaugh Show”—is thought to be the most expensive in radio since Howard Stern moved to Sirius Satellite Radio for a reported $500 million in 2004.

“I’m not retiring until every American agrees with me,” Mr. Limbaugh, 57, said on his radio program Wednesday.

Rush is successful because he learned from history’s best. Do a little reading about the National Socialist German Workers’s Party

You and the rest of his “audience” have been pwned.

Time for me to un-check that e-mail-notification box! Look, Dave, your alluding to the “traditional media dying”, and “corporate media is growing irrelevant” because the “audience is changing” wasn’t really my point, which you referred to as an “interesting opinion”. A point/opinion that you seem to have missed entirely. You’re probably one of those god-awful bloggers, aren’t you?

Your referencing of the “shrinking numbers” willing to turn their minds over to paid shills flies directly in the face of the huge contract that this discussion is even about! Would Rush Limbaugh’s paymasters have offered him an 8-year $400m contract if they thought that his numbers were going to shrink at any time soon? Porbably not. As I said in my first post, from a BUSINESS standpoint, it was a smart move. Obviously, the people paying the money out seem to think so, too. A user named felicity posted something here on 5 July that you might want to read also.

And, for goodness sakes, dude, give it a rest already about my screen name. The only nerve that it struck with me was the fact that you even bothered to comment on it at all. TWICE! I find that to be truly bizarre, Dave. Seriously. You “like to know” who you’re talking to? Is that a demand you make of everyone here who comments under something other than their birth name?

Seriously, Dave, find something more substantive to worry about.

Whatever you think of Rush Limbaugh and his tirades, he has proven that you can reach the top of your profession through perseverance.  Regardless whether any of us think he is “worth” $400M, he has convinced someone that he is.  It is not up to any of us to decide if he is or not unless you are the one paying him.  It really is very simple.

And if anyone thinks that all 20 million of his listeners are just mindless robots, you are an idiot.  Think about it, 20 million people.  That is staggering.

Like I said, for reasons I outlined before - the traditional media is dying (although I think they know it’s coming and are trying to stifle it). The audience is changing. Those who take corporate media at their word are shrinking in number. Corporate media is growing irrelevant. Along with their paid shills.

And whew. Two paragraphs devoted to screen names. Struck a nerve? I brought it up because I like to know who I’m talking to. I stand behind my previous statement.

First of all is Rush an actual name? Is he a verb? Mrs. Limbo: “Here are my children- ‘Rush’, ‘To’ and ‘The Bathroom’.” “Oh Mrs. Limbo, Rush is such a big boy. He looks just like The Bathroom.”

All snideness aside, I think it’s important to note that Limbo appeared in reaction to the soppy biased media. I am reminded daily that I like Obama much more than the fawning media that covers him.

But with Limbo, we are served up a bombastic denigrator of so many. America obviously wanted this opposite number to the Kumbaya crowd. You take this guy Jake Tapper on ABC. What makes him more disingenuous than Limbo is the fact that he is simply a “Senior Correspondent”. He’s not advertised as the Obama shill he is.

The problem is compounded by the fact that Fox is not fairly promoted as Right Wing News. But to be fair, the networks never called themselves Left Wing News; again, that’s what spawned Limbo.

All of this amounts to a cruel joke on the American people, either that or what Limbo contributes to…teams of hot air gladiators spewing their nonsense to while away your driving nightmare in traffic.

Why can’t we have Mark Twain in the Morning rather than the Prattle Brigade on the networks? Diane: “Today, Obama’s airplane hit some turbulence. Let’s all pray for the safety of our Annointed King and get all gooey about the fact that he’s an African American, because we’re all so guilty about slavery.”

Personally, I don’t feel Limburger will live through the end of this current contract. Decadence, greed and conceit have a way of decaying one from the inside out. There is also the issue of his seemingly unfettered access to drugs. I guess if Clear Channel is happy with his relationship with Bush’s 24 percent…so be it. But it’s about to be a different America and thankfully I’m around to see it.

Not that it has anything at all to do with anything even remotely connected to the actual topic, but, today was the first time I’ve even heard of this site. So, not being a regular visitor, why bother to register if I’m merely responding to a blurb that just happened to catch my eye?

And, as to your comment in hopes of the dwindling number of “narrow minded folks, more than happy to remain ignorant who are willing to turn over their brains to Rush”, his paymasters don’t seem to think that number will decrease at any time soon (I heard on Stephanie Miller this morning that Hannity—- who I find to be the absolute worst of the entire lot—- apparently signed a $200m extension), hence, the mega contract. That was kinda the whole point of my original post.

Interesting opinion. Although I think you’re in for a big surprise. Limbaugh too. This isn’t the same country it was when he got his start, when most US citizens had to depend on traditional media for their news and opinions. With the internet, independent media and blogs with a global reach, people no longer have to be slaves to corporate media and their agendas. Yes, there will always be plenty of narrow minded folks, more than happy to remain ignorant who are willing to turn over their brains to Rush. Let’s hope their numbers continue to dwindle.

In response to DR.Knowitall’s comment from 4 July: you are absolutely correct. Limbaugh’s paymasters have likely conceded that Obama will be in the White House for the next 8 years, hence, an 8-year contract extension! Brilliant! All anyone with even a 3rd of a brain has to keep in mind is that Limbaugh didn’t begin to make a name for himself nationally until the last Democratic administration. And with another on the horizon, his paymasters saw dollar signs and merely made a smart business decision by locking him down for the length of the Obama years. Believe me, President Barack Obama will turn out to be the best gift conservative right wingnut radio could’ve ever wished for.

I had the misfortune of being a radio station employee where his broadcast was carried, that was many years ago, now, but I seriously doubt that his broadcast content or format have improved a lot in the years since. I am glad he got shown up to be a drug addict, and was employing a personal housekeeper from a foreign country illegally, which is against the law, hence the term, ‘illegal’.
I don’t know if Limbaugh ever faced charges regarding this, or if there’s a statute of limitations involved, but here’s the relevant information:
http://www.immigrationspecialistsllc.com/uploads/
FEDERAL_IMMIGRATION_AND_NATIONALITY_ACT.pdf

Limbaugh is one of many media celebrities who essentially seem to feel that they are above prosecution due to the fact that they have a fair amount of money. But, O.J. Simpson’s in trouble with the law again, and Limbaugh could end up in front of a judge himself if he starts comporting himself in flagrant and felonious fashion. It’s no small surprise that Limbaugh’s been a big fan of this administration, as there have been grievous and egregious violations of things like the Geneva convention, I am grateful for one thing, though, that as Carlin observed, there are two knobs on the radio, which will forever liberate me from having to listen to another picosecond’s worth of Limbaugh’s political prattle. I hope the man develops an affinity for pretzels…

It is far easier to be ignorant and have others tell you what to believe then to read, think for one’s self and formulate an opinion based on fact.

Limbaugh’s contract renewal is based on the fact that over half of the population in this country are more than happy to have him do their thinking for them.

Rush Limbaugh is the canary in a coal mine. It is because we have the proportion of willfully ignorant people that we do that John McBush , or any republican for that matter, even has a chance after these past 7-1/2 years of the worst administration in our history. Its because of these same fools, in all our towns, who stand at the street corner wrapped in a flag, cheerleaders of a crimnal war started by the United States that still listen to Limbaugh and Fox News, that go to their church and are preached to about judging all others who are different as a threat to us. Everything we don’t understand is seen as a threat to our way of life, a fundimental mindset of people who view everything thru a lens of partisan politics. Rush Limbaugh would evaporate if those still living in dumbfuckistan ever woke up to reality…but like the idiots in So. Carolina who kept re-electing a person like Jesse Helms over and over, sadly it appears tha isn’t going to happen in this country untill our “so-called” representitives start caring about the people they supposedly represent instead of their own miserable political aspirations. Our country is in a downword spiral due to the fraud, waste and blatant criminal actions of this administration and yet the democratic leadership refuses to deal with them. Each day they remain in office we will have farther to dig our way out of this hole, and each day the republicans remain traitors like Rush Limbaugh are listened to on our airwaves, they continue to sneer all the way to the bank.

Rush Limbaugh is the ticking bomb inside neo-Conservatism. More than any liberal, he has poisoned the thinking of Conservatives like a prion disease, disabling them, rendering them incompetent to offer anything stronger than self-parody in response to the disasters they created. Imagine—these people used to pride themselves on understanding Russell Kirk. They gave all that rigor and ability up to Rush the way American basketball surrendered fundamentals and became a cheap hip-hop display. Rush is a force of decadence.

In my opinion Rush Limbaugh is the avatar of Corporate Media’s mission: To dumb-down,delude,misinform and distract the American public for the purpose of reaping immense profits to the few and to maintain (by however slim a margin)the radical statists in power in Washington.

The level of hubris this statement attains is both nauseating and telling.

For (1) How can this windbag POSSIBLY sit there and for $400 million dollars defend the most impeachable administration in the history of a country that now sits in economic peril after trading both public security and solvency for private, elite gain?

And (2), the statement belies how these monsters think - neo-fascist totalitarians whose aim, by one method or another, is to conform everyone’s thinking and behavior to their own.

For Christ’s sake, if Rush had anything cogent or compelling to say for us to agree with, it would have already been said long ago - we don’t need 8 more years to hear it all again as though it’s going to be more persuasive this time around.
