Choosing her battles: Brigitte Bardot made the case against the slaughter of baby seals while representing her foundation in Switzerland in 2005.

Erstwhile bombshell Brigitte Bardot is being tried on racism charges for her controversial stance against Muslims in France. She communicated her position last year to now-President Nicholas Sarkozy and publish her letter to Sarkozy in her own foundation’s journal. The actress and animal rights activist’s divisive views about Islam are certainly alarming—as is the notion that Bardot actually has a foundation that publishes its own quarterly journal. What’s more, this isn’t the first time she’s been accused of this kind of discrimination.

AP via Yahoo News:

In a Paris court hearing Tuesday, prosecutors said they are seeking a two-month suspended prison sentence and a $23,900 fine against the former screen siren and animal rights campaigner.

Bardot, 73, was not present for the hearing. A verdict is expected June 3.

Every month there seems to be at lest one and sometimes more bombings by moslems aimed at not just different moslem sects but against the general moslem population. In Taliban times in Afganistan women weren’t allowed to go to Dr.‘s and even if they had no male to earn an income they were not allowed to have a job and certainly not one that gave them power and decent income.

But really that is at the heart and core of Abrahamic religions. A hatred of women, A hatred of contrary opinion and a brutal reactionary faith. The west did not invent this, although many in the west have risen above the fraud of Abrahamic religion, even those who still cling to it, realize each person must speak for themselves.

The intrusion of Islam into Europe and America is not something to celebrate and it is something to suspect. I don’t hate them for having a pitiful religion, I dislike them for imposing it on others and trying to make a secular society exclude them from the laws and obligations that everyone must obey in order to have a free and safe society.

It isn’t a hate crime to defend ones self against those who hate and want to harm. Islam gets bad press, because Islam creates bad press, just like the jerks who follow Pat Robertson and other hateful preachers. If you are trying to hurt me why should I give you a free pass for your crimes. I don’t think so. Remember Van Gogh’s nephew. That is the future if we don’t make it clear the laws apply to all religiously fundamentalist, believe we are going to hell if you want, but don’t think you have the right to send us there. Hurrah for Bardot!

What nonsense. You’ve been reading Mark Steyn’s repulsive and ridiculous rubbish. There is no basis whatsoever for this “demographic” argument.

To Mr Abdallu,
I normally enjoy reading your comments regarding the articles on this web site, but I must say that unlike other people who found your comment about masturbation and semen funny, I found them disturbing. Comments like those are not becoming of a man of your obvious intelligence and knowledge. Did you by any chance slip, and let anger become your enemy?.

France is an example of political correctness run amok… How about doing little or nothing to atone for their racist, exploitative colonial past?

Fadel, I have serious doubts that you really understand what the word fascist actually means, perhaps because English is not your first language.  I’m not insulting you, it’s just an observation.  You should spend some time researching it’s meaning and origins if you wish to use it with relevance in your rhetoric.

As for me, I can be reasonably described as secular neo-objectivist, libertarian, or even a Jeffersonian democrat, though none fit me perfectly. All are about as far from fascist as one can get, as all generally emphasize the rights of the individual over the interest of the state and the supremacy of Reason over any religion or ideology.

There are Islamic countries that fit the fascism mold far more than even the Bush government (who I do not support), such as the government of Iran, Syria,  and the old baathist regime of Saddam’s Iraq. If you don’t see clear example of fascism in these regimes, then I would recommend you research the term from impartial resources to better understand it’s meaning.  Wikipedia is a good place to start.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

It is not accurate to label white Europeans as fascist simply because they fear who fear an influx of foreign religious fundamentalists who reject the modern European ideals of democracy and separation of church and state, which where I believe Bardot is coming from ideologically.  I’m not familiar enough with her to be certain of that.

Apparently the only French man with a pair is a woman. Her only weapon is the truth otherwise she would be ignored. There is nothing more dangerous to any cult than the truth. I’m certain she and any that agree with her will be silenced by the cult through violent acts. That’s the new Europe.

Don’t worry about a fascist movement sweeping through the West! We already had eight years of that in the U.S. and you’re just one of those.

Europe, especially during hard difficult times, has inherent in it all the seeds of fascism, which I actually believe it runs in the genes of white Europeans.

You fascist! Don’t try to hide your bigot fascist mentality under a phony facade of concern for what might happen, when you’re, in fact, a living example of what we already have at hand!

France is an example of political correctness run amok. They are more tolerant of immigrant communities who flout French law to create their own Islamic mini-states than they are of they own natural born citizens’ right to voice concern over this trend.

Europe is either going to slip away slowly and become part of an extended Muslim empire, or they are going to have to wake up now and start to stem the tide and work to proactively integrate their existing muslim populations into local society and the rule of law. They need to start by busing immigrant kids to public schools away from their neighborhoods and requiring civics training as part of their education,  and not allowing private Islamic schooling for immigrants children until they graduate from public high school first.

If they wait too long eventually the pendulum will swing from passive tolerance to extreme reactionist violence and we will see another fascist movement sweep through Europe, advocating a ‘final solution’ to the muslim problem. Either that, or we may see another mass migration from Europe to North America, and the old Europe may end up abandoned to the Islamists.

“Islam has not moral superiority over other religions..”
=====================
This statement of yours is irrelevant to the thread you’re commenting upon, since no one on the Muslim’s side made that claim in connection with this story. Islam’s superiority or inferiority was not at the center of the story, and it will remain forever a relative matter in the eyes of the beholder.

Jim Yell! One does not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a bigot will come to the defense of a bigot like him or her. But who are you, and what’s your religion beyond being a bigot? In your post you attacked both Islam and Christianity, which is OK with me since things are in the eyes of the beholder as I said!

But what happened to Judaism, the third major monotheistic religion?! Is this the only true religion beyond reproach and free of murderers. If this was your intend, then I have very bad news for you! And if you challenge me on this, then my next gift for you is a book length documentation of murders, massacres and hideous crimes against humanity committed by Jews throughout history, and beginning with Joshua when he led his armies of marauders and occupiers upon entering Palestine. You can start with your Bible as a primer on this topic!

I guess the citizens living in Muslim contries could never know what it feels like to have hundreds of thousands of Christian foreigners move into their country ... disrespect their culture, customs, beliefs ... burn their cars ... commit acts of vandalism and intolerance ... make their ‘once safe streets’ unsafe to walk on ... and demand that their Islamic country change to accomodate their new visitors.
Of course, muslim countries are totally intolerant, and don’t provide their visitors with any freedoms ... plus, who in their right mind would want to migrate to an Islamic country anyway? I guess that’s why all the traffic is heading in ONE direction. Besides, if all these muslims are migrating to Western countries for freedoms and opportunities, not available in their countries of origin ... then why are they trying so hard to turn their new host countries into the same type countries they are fleeing?

Since when are Muslims a race? Are Atheists a race? And Agnostics? Next thing you know, you will have racism charges for saying something about left-handed people. Left-handed race looming on the horizon. Politically Correct is a form of correctness when all others fail.

Hurrah for Bardot. I have read what has been written about the details of her supposed crime. If some one is a murderer it isn’t or certainly shouldn’t be considered prejudicial to observe and comment on the FACT. Islam has not moral superiority over other religions, which is proved every day by completely senseless murders. For the rest of my life I will remember the wheelchair victims of 9/11 who were told to wait by the elevators for rescue from an Islamic Crime. It is the truth, just as it is the truth that Christianity has been in the lead for much murder, theft and other embarressing behavior.

Religion is only as good as its members. There is no crime in remembering the actual behavior of these people who claim to know the only truth and what God (saying he exists) wants from us. If our behavior was important to God than the message would be the same from every divine. It isn’t, it hasn’t ever been, so any value of a religion rests with the individual believer and shouldn’t be inflicted upon general society.

I support Bardot in her sometimes over reaching regards to the “Lest” of the worlds creatures. Besides how do we know they are the lest? We are the ones who judge them so, even when our own horrors are clearly in view.

The history of free speech is only relevant when both sides have free speech. Then it is called a debate.Ms Bardot who would give more freedom to animals than people is obviously a moron. But if we took free speech away from the morons our President would not able to speak. She should not be tried or certainly not convicted for her words.I in fact encourage her to speak so we can ascertain what a fully rounded well built moron she is.Sunshine the best antiseptic.

Fadel, I love it. Good one. However, an argument can be made that semen is never wasted. In a much lesser physical way I felt the same after learning about the politics, racist leanings, and various prejudices of some of the film stars I loved as a youth.

Sometimes we must edit our memories.

I don’t know what exactly Bardot said, but that really doesn’t matter: she has the right to say it. The cornerstone concept of free speech is that, if someone is a fool, let him speak, and his folly will be evident to everyone.

As a libertarian, I dispute the notion that governments have some sort of special wisdom that allows them to tell someone when to shut up.

Freedom of speech is certainly a beautiful and cherished thing. It is precisely because of this that it should be the privilege of those who honor and respect what it entails and foresee both its positive and negative consequences.

Remember! The Spanish Inquisition, whose victims were both Jews and Muslims, started with a campaign of hateful speech against these two groups, leading to burning them in large numbers on crosses.

This same hateful speech was the prelude for the Jewish Holocaust in Nazi Germany.

I think you and your mother are deadly wrong about you understanding of freedom of speech!

This old bitch’s racial hatred against Muslims turned up to be more than I bargained for! When I was a young man in high school. I remember going to the movies to see many of her pictures when she was much a sex symbol for the young youth of my hometown of Ramallah. We would go to see her sexy movies and then masturbate after that. Many young Palestinians had, at least, a sexual love affair with her.

Now with her racial hatred against my co-religionists I fee sorry for all the wasted semen!

This is where America MUST be distinguished in the future - if free speech is to remain FREE.  I’ll keep this short to something my mother told me as a child, which I think is the heart of why free speech must be maintained at ALL COSTS. “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me.”  Now of course there are those who will say, but names can hurt. And yeh, they can - but to date - our country has figured out that to call someone who is african nigger, or someone chinese chink, or a woman a bitch - is NOT OK- without laws against such speech having to be passed, this too is another example of this same scenario. Silencing dissent is just that - keeping open to debate, and discernment, critical thinking -and more importantly humor - is really freedom of speech is about.  I would hope ALL of us would rise to our feet at the first hint or cencorship.  And, on that note - I don’t think the Holocaust really happend. ( of course I am kidding, but did you all feel the gasp of air you just took - no body died because I voiced my belief, but fear rippied through your belly because we KNOW that people are being thrown in jail in Europe for saying that little sentence.  And this is how freedom of speech gets lost- fear or words.
