Stone’s Next Subject: G.W. BushPosted on Jan 21, 2008
Director Oliver Stone has already demonstrated his penchant for making movies about controversial figures and critical moments in world history, so it should come as no surprise that Stone is turning his lens on George W. Bush for his next film, simply and succinctly called “Bush.” According to Daily Variety, Josh Brolin, riding high after his acclaimed turn in “No Country for Old Men,” is attached to play President Bush, but the trade didn’t mention any actors being considered for other choice parts like Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice and George H.W. Bush. Got suggestions? Discuss.

By Bill Blackolive, January 30 at 9:12 am # We can carry on with W. thinks God is his guide, Oliver and Michael may do movies, but till we can have a mention of the 9/ll coverup in the corporate media, nothing changes. Obama can be president and till the bare physics of 9/ll get shoved down schizoid throats, the danger is unchanged. Besides, the shit then will head on, and on. Whatever should Obama supposedly do? Maybe he could speak up?
By GW=MCHammered, January 27 at 10:14 am # Lapdog Mangle BushFrenchman Jérôme Kerviel must play Bush. Though Kerviel is likely a derivative scapegoat, he knows firsthand how big financiers and their political lapdogs dysfunction. Besides, I prefer a french accent to that presidential vomitus mangle.
By FrostedFlakes, January 27 at 9:05 am # I too have the same problem. Just a glance of this idiot, with his malicious sneer, is enough to cause me to not only kick the television but to also break into impromptu rants. He is truly despicable and yet he is still more redeemable than Cheney.
By DennisD, January 26 at 4:34 pm # Lights, Action, Lies, InsanityOliver - listen up, surely you have something better to do with your time. If not, I’d like to suggest more therapy. On the plus side - no one will be copying it when and if it gets to DVD.
By A Nuffer, January 26 at 1:05 pm # Oliver StoneGeorge Bush is not a recovering alcoholic, he is a dry drunk. He supposedly quit drinking because he found God. He is a drunk, and will always be a drunk. Drunks are arrogant, mean, pick fights and let others do their battles, their families despise them, they have no friends and they always cry “look what he or she did to me!” They never take responsibility for their lousey lives and the expect everybody else to pick up after they have managed to destroy everything they touch. This man has no conscience, has no heart and has no idea how to show any kind of real emotion. He sneers and he laughs and he walks like a cowboy with a swagger. But those of us who know and have lived with alcholism
By Piceno, January 25 at 6:07 am # Mr Stone, SHAME on you! dubya does not deserve even Here’s is a thought: everyone boycott the state of In November 2004, when the impossible happened Mr Stone, re-consider your plans!!
By skyreader7, January 25 at 2:26 am # Pig's EarSo Stone’s job is to turn a sou’s ear into a silk purse?
By xenon, January 24 at 3:39 pm # If Mr. Stone had any intestinal fortitude at all, he would have tackled Cheney instead. Nothing says “close but no cigar” like taking on the puppet instead of its master. Why he would bother wasting his time (and money) at the risk of inflating the ego of this maniacal, messianic little cowboy is completely beyond me.
By Jeffrey, January 24 at 11:11 am # Well I certainly don’t blame you there. Fair enough.
By Not a Bu$h fan, January 24 at 8:15 am # Can more be said of Mr. Oliver’s judgement http://home.snafu.de/tilman/faq-you/celeb.txt “Celebrities are very Special people and have a very distinct L. Ron Hubbard, from Flag Order 3323, 9 May 1973 Name: Oliver Stone
By Libby Kitrel, January 23 at 10:13 pm # I am o ne ofI am o ne of the people who knew these were lies,
By Jkoch, January 23 at 12:00 pm # Stone may want to WStone may want to W as the “straight” in a White House drama whose driving characters are Cheney, Rove, Rumsfield, and other manics, comics, and schmoozers. Perhaps the model is the Jerzy Kosinski story “Being There,” where a lobotomesque stooge becomes the object of other people’s projected ideas, schemes, and cravings. Or maybe the movie will deal entirely with W’s semi-obscured youth or dark years as a directionless son of a hyper-achiever. I can also imagine it culminating in the famous landing on the deck of the USS Lincoln, presented as a surreal cross between the closing scene of El Cid and Austin Powers’ launch into time travel. But heaven help humanity of Stone casts some laconic Gary Gooper or Randolf Scott type and conves W as some verbally challenged but nonetheless noble character.
By Tom, January 23 at 10:42 am # Oliver Stone should call it:NATURALOliver Stone should call it: NATURAL BORN KILLERS 2! On the other hand, his previous presidential bio pic was titled simply “Nixon”. Maybe he’ll make a trilogy of evil leaders and do “Hitler” after this one.
By GW=MCHammered, January 23 at 8:24 am # Script Complete!Mister Stone: I wrote a script about criminal corporates and their deadly ways. In this week’s rewrite, I’ll expand their psychotic greed world-wide and rename the main crook Bush. We can begin shooting even before Bush fires at Iran!
By why, January 23 at 6:59 am # BUSH? Say it aint so!!!I would rather see a criminal court transcript of the Bush years than a film on GW’s life. Talk about wasted energy and money. I have not listened or viewed GWB in news segments or in print media for years. As I’ve essentially not turned on a TV set in years .The site of that man bush makes me ill also.So why would I go and watch a movie about 1 man that wreaked such havoc over an entire globe in such a short amount of time and was not held accountable for any of it. The man certainly is not worth my time. O. Stone...what were you thinking or you must be stoned. The world is in dire of need of repair, not a film that adds insult to injury. My guess is , this will not be a huge money maker for Stone. As a matter of fact he ought to pay people to view it if they can stomach it.I’m sure it won’t be a “just have to see” movie in any country.
By shy ted, January 22 at 5:07 pm # I'm glad you liked Nixon,I’m glad you liked Nixon, Jeffery as you watched it for me too. Myself, I don’t need to relive the nixon years any more than the reagan years. Having my nose rubbed in the failures of America’s voting history isn’t entertaining.
By Trigger finger, January 22 at 3:00 pm # I read a book aI read a book a few years back titled: This book seems to apply to those lucky enough to live in the web of bush. You should never fear as your leader is fearing for you. The brilliance of the bush, who long before any other mortal on the face of the earth has foreseen that the economy under his brilliant rule and guidance is starting to sink just a tiny itsy bitsy bit(and to think that at the very moment it began to sink is the exact moment when he first noticed it). The man is brilliant! The “decider” has decided a spike is just what is needed. He will return your hard earned tax dollars so you can spend and spike. Then he will tax you on them again next year. The man is brilliant, just brilliant! So don’t blame him for coming in late on this one! Just brilliant! “When you think things are bad, Just tell yourself, Ducky, And those less fortunate are Lets hear it for the man’s brilliance! WoW....
By Lori Gleason, January 23 at 4:51 am # Re: I read a book aYour comments are terrific - I’d be laughing with you, but “I’m so happy, I can’t stop crying”.
By Sang Ze, January 22 at 2:33 pm # The whitewash begins. The whitewash begins.
By Sharon Ash, January 22 at 1:26 pm # Could be beneficial....For those people whose minds are open and are wondering how we wound up with such an inept leader, a film like this might be beneficial in helping them make better choices in the future. As for me, I had carefully researched George W. Bush prior to his election in 2000 and knew all I needed to know as to how totally unqualified, in fact, potentially dangerous, he was as president of the U.S. I was amazed, that even with his money and given the fact we are talking about Texas, that he was elected as governor. But to go see a movie about a seven year and counting, nightmare, I will pass.
By rodney, January 22 at 10:53 am # I wonder if it willI wonder if it will be a cocedy or a horror film? I suspect both.
By Socalcde, January 22 at 7:09 am # SickeningI don’t think that Oliver Stone is in touch with the reality of the disgust factor that people in this country have for G.W., and as far as comparing him to Nixon, as corrupt a character as Nixon was, he was nothing compared to this monster and his band of thugs.
By don knutsen, January 22 at 6:49 am # I don't understand how theI don’t understand how the story of a vapid, self absorbed, rich brat without the curiosity of a box of rocks would make for good entertainment. We’ve already been entertained by this idiot long enough. I doubt there is anything new we need to know about GW Bush. I would think the life of another traitor , say Benedict Arnold, would be much more interesting. He, actually did fight for his country before turning. The best entertainment for us all would be watching him & cheney hauled out of the white house in Tar & Feathers to a jail cell.
By Sang Ze, January 22 at 5:29 am # Stone, with an eye onStone, with an eye on the dollar and his own claims to fame, just wants to be the first to whitewash the crimes of this president and his henchmen. It won’t be long before we see books praising the accomplishments of Bush alongside those praising Reaganomics and war. I assume Bush and Cheney will be co-writing the script with him.
