With top-tier talent unwilling to cross picket lines for the sake of a gala awards ceremony, the folks who put together the Golden Globes (the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, NBC and Dick Clark Productions) scrambled to work around the whole no-actors-showing-up issue but had to setlle for a newscast announcing the winners.

That’s one way to avoid the dreaded acceptance speech.

LA Weekly:

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced that the recipients of Golden Globe Awards in 25 categories will be revealed during an hour-long HFPA press conference at The Beverly Hilton to be covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13. “The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards” NBC telecast and champagne dinner in The Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom is officially cancelled.

I concur with most of

I concur with most of the negative sentiments regarding the Golden Globe Awards and anything to do with Hollywood in general.  Who cares?  Most Hollywood programming is so lowest common denominator that it’s not worth watching.  PBS, BBC and BBC Entertainment is far more interesting than most commercial programs.

It annoys me that my sister’s livelihood as an associate producer is being threatened by this strike.  There are plenty of starving new writers out there who would be willing to fill in for the fat-cat strikers.  Actually, the problem has more to with the fact that TV actors and top managers and executive producers are grossly over-paid, while everyone else in the business is just struggling to survive with little or no benefits.

It’s time for Hollywood to clean up its act.

Who F.ing cares

I’m inundated with this kind of crap all day and all night on major media while many other stories fall by the waist-side.  Why does my truthdig time have to be taken up with this kind of bullshit?  This site is an oasis in the desert of the tabloid news.  It’s sad to see truthdig falling in this same kind of arena where will we go.  By the way BB’s campaign coverage is real tight.

WHO CARES!! F the

WHO CARES!!

F the writers, F hollywood.  They all act like such humanitarians, pompous and smug.  Why should i care if i don’t get to see a show where they do nothing but exalt eachother.

Most of them also profess to be democrat, but probably really enjoy the great tax breaks that bush has given them.  Elitist bastards the lot of them.

I’d rather have honest news programs and papers then most of the dumbing-down drivel thats on tv today.

Reality a joke

Acting should be equal to digging a ditch, if so they should have annual diggies, pompous self promotion has always been a problem with me, but maybe it has something to do with the enhanced lack of humility.

Ditch diggers, jack hammer operators, janitors, why is acting perceived to be so glamorous, self emulated?  We are simpletons and need to be entertained.

Re: Reality a joke

probably because no one pays 10 dollars to watch men dig ditches for 2 hours. also people see movies and watch tv to escape the drudgery of their lives digging said ditches and what-have-you.

Re: Re: Reality a joke

I’m with you Leefeller,

I wouldn’t pay $10.00 to watch movies and/or tv for free. Now I’m not likely to pay that to watch men dig ditches either, but I’m far more appreciative of the ditch digging effort than I am a mental escape.

Digging ditches generally serves a useful purpose, that movie watchers could never figure out. Same with janitors and jackhammer operators.

But then, movie watchers never notice that sort of reality, not even when the janitors and ditch diggers disappear, and stop doing that dull work. Matter of fact, I think they could probably just sink into a gigantic pile of their own trash, and never even notice, as long as the TV is on.

Who in the hell cares

Who in the hell cares about the Golden Globes anyway? These awards, cooked up by a bunch of elitist foreign journalists to make themselves rich, are what is wrong with the decadent entertainment industry. And, the stike should have prevented even any awards from being given; these snob scabs can all go to hollywood hell.

Go, WRITERS!

Never give up! Get your victory! Writers, GET PAID!!!

Writers do all the work to make common trash appealing enough to eat raw, yet get paid peanuts. It’s a lowdown dirty shame the way the networks and studios treat the heart and soul of the industry. I hope these hogs in media writhe in money losing agony for a couple seasons.

And, KUDOS to the actors who know on which side their bread is buttered. Without good writers, they’d be in chicken costumes pushing the daily special at KFC.

Stick to it writers. Prices

Stick to it writers. Prices for commercials on pre-dumped second-rate TV series and reruns will soon plummet. Some of we gruntz appreciate your American anti-apathy against the haves-n-the-have-mores stealing from We The Team!
