From 1977 to 1981, Dr. Brzezinski served as National Security Advisor to the President of the United States. In 1981 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in the normalization of U.S.-Chinese relations and for his contributions to the human rights and national security policies of the United States.

Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1928, the son of a diplomat, Dr. Brzezinski was aware of the dynamics of foreign policy at an early age. His illustrious career as a foreign policy advisor is marked by his service to President Carter, during the 1976 presidential campaign, and to President Bush as co-chairman of the Bush National Security Advisory Task Force.

Dr. Brzezinski has also distinguished himself as a professor at Harvard University, Columbia University and currently, Johns Hopkins University as Professor of American Foreign Policy at the School of Advanced International Studies. He also serves on numerous private and public sector boards and project committees, including Amnesty International.

He has been given numerous honorary degrees and honors, including “The Order of the White Eagle,” Poland?s highest civilian decoration, for his contributions to recovery by Poland of its independence. In 1969 he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1963, he was selected by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as one of America?s Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Year.
